"Saved"

Ask any Christian what it means to be saved and they will quote some version of Romans 10:9 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Seems easy, but is it?

To confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus you have to be confessing the Jesus of the Bible. And not just any Bible but the one that is God inspired which we have discussed in one of our podcasts. Otherwise, are you really confessing the Lord Jesus?

To believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead takes more than just an emotional experience or uttering the words confessing Jesus. It takes belief that allows the Holy Ghost to enter you. This in turn affects how you live and your way of life. This is not so easy. Answering an altar call or being overwhelmed at a revival can lead a person to do and say the right things in that moment. The question is, how long does the moment last. Is it until they leave the event, the next day or a lifetime? If the answer is one of the first two, was there really belief that led to salvation?

Jesus tells us in the parable of the sower in Matthew 13 that seeds fall in four areas and two of them do not lead to salvation. Which seed was your experience?
