Demonic Possession

Many Christians believe that we fight a spiritual war. A war that is unseen and is outside our physical world. Ephesians 6:12 supports this when it says “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
The problem is that many of these same Christians do not believe this includes devil possession and demonic influence in our physical world. There are 35 verses about casting out or possession of devils. There are 48 results when one searches for the word “devils” in the Bible. Eight of those refer to illness and devils separately, clearly making a distinction between the two. That does not mean a devil cannot cause an illness, this just states they are not one and the same as some believe. This belief greatly diminishes the impact of the unseen.
We often overlook the fact that humans can be possessed by devils. It should not be too hard to see the evidence of this in our world. However, not many would look at someone in the news and say “that person is possessed by devils.” They may say that person is evil with no thought of possession.
It is important to realize that sometimes a person is devil possessed or demonically influenced. This means common sense and logic will not work no matter how hard we try to reason with a devil possessed person. The Bible tells us that the devil must be cast out before the person can be in their right mind. Mark 5:15 says “And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” The person is in his right mind when he is no longer possessed.
Devil possession is real. Being influenced by devils even if not completely possessed is real. If one does not believe this then, they may not realize the true enemy they are fighting.
